Friday-Saturday, November 27-28th kicks off fourth season of competition for the Midwest Indoor Racing Series
Rochester Hills, Michigan (Wednesday, October 21, 2015): The fastest growing indoor racing series in the country, the Midwest Indoor Racing Series continues preparations for the upcoming winter racing season as one event, spanning over two days on the schedule has become the traditional door opener for the Rochester Hills, Michigan based series. The 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Classic Weekend is set for Friday-Saturday, November 27-28th as Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, Michigan will serve as host.
In addition to the third consecutive running of the Thanksgiving Classic Weekend, plans also call for two more events to be announced at a later date. Several other announcements are also forthcoming regarding the remainder of the 2015/2016 winter racing series schedule and much more within the Midwest Indoor Racing Series and its sanctioning body; Motor City Racing Promotions. One of those announcements is the divisions that will be racing in Southern Michigan throughout both days.
The opening race weekend in southern Michigan will feature two nights of racing starting on Friday, November 27th. After an open to all classes racing during the weekend Practice, the 600cc Mini Sprints will headline opening night with the 30-Lap Friday Night Shootout. Monrovia, Indiana native, Drew Dorsett in his #11 Suphten Fire Trucks machine went to victory lane one year ago. In addition, the Go-Karts divisions of 360’s, Heavy Clone, Open, Senior Cage, Junior Cage, Gold Plate and Purple Plate will be in action. Also, the Quarter Midgets divisions of Senior Honda, Junior Honda, Heavy Honda, Senior Animal, Junior Animal, Light 160 and Heavy 160 will all be racing for an action packed night.
Then on Saturday, November 28th, the 600cc Non-Winged Mini Sprints return with the 50-lap headlining Feature of the weekend. In 2014, they kicked off the 2014/2015 winter season with a thrilling main event to cap off the weekend as 15-year-old, at the time, Chase Ridenour started on the pole and paced the field for the first 30 laps until suddenly slowing bringing out the yellow flag. The defending series champion would get power restored, but would have to start at the tail of the field. This gave the lead to Peter Hathaway who had Friday Night Shootout winner, Drew Dorsett on his back nerf bar.
Dorsett, who started 13th, would grab the lead with just three laps to go only to see Hathaway regroup and slide back past Dorsett a lap later. Hathaway in his #16 Sweet Manufacturing entry would then hang on to score the upset victory to give the Kalamazoo, Michigan native his first career MIRS Feature Win. Dorsett settled for second with Ridenour recovering to finish third. Clay Sanders was fourth as John Ivy completed the top five.
In addition to the Mini Sprints, the Mini Cup Cars and three Lawn Mower divisions of Super Modified, Modified and Stock classes will all join in on the action while six Go-Karts divisions will return; 360’s, Heavy Clone, Senior Cage, Junior Cage, Gold and Purple Plate, Kid Karts will be added to the Saturday night program. All seven Quarter Midget divisions will also return for a second night of competition for a full 19-division lineup to complete the traditional holiday weekend of racing in Southern Michigan.
